mpls image for cisco 2500
Hello all,
Does anybody have experimental IOS for Cisco 2500:
c2500-js-l.20oct2001
c2500-p-l.20oct2001
c2500-p-l.tag
(MPLS features and so on for 2500 routers – I have lost my NAS server with FTP and TFTP directory because of disc failure).
It will be really helpfull if anybody can share, IOSes were available at ftp://ftp-eng.cisco.com/rraszuk/specials but there is no more such a directory.
Thank you in advance, Adrian

IPv6 NAT-PT
Hi,
I have a requirement to test a server using it’s ipv6 interface for DNS querying. The DNS server is ipv4 and has mostly ipv4 data and A records. This seemed like a good opportunity to try out NAT-PT.
It seems that there is a built-in ALG which recognizes the DNS and converts A queries to AAAA. Some packets are converted and some are (silently) dropped. Is there some way to disable the ALG or another method of some simple static ipv6ipv4 Natting on the transport layer only?

Dynamips for the NEW Blueprint
Why not use a 2611 with 256MB Ram and 48MB Flash with 12.4T code?

SIP vs H323 thoughts
I guess CCIE level needs understanding of concepts, OEQs seem to be headed that way, and I always feel bad when something does not “click” right
It used to be the case that H323 vs. SIP was kind of Tacacs vs Radius. And like that case, market has decided the way.
But before the direction was settled, cisco (through documentation and or course material) that SIP was bound to be more “heavy” on resources because as it is a text based protocol, you need to do parsing at the ends. This is from a programming point of view as sound as saying that OSPF is “heavy” because you have to run the SPF algo. I don’t really buy the argument but it has some grounds.
Now, cisco is pushing the SIP way, and in so doing, now SIP performs better than H.323, even for native H.323 solutions like CVP. It actually says that CVP servers perform more than 50% better when using SIP instead of H.323, as denoted by a server supporting 500 ports when using H.323 but 850 on SIP.
Any idea why is that so ? Let alone SIP things like requiring MTPs on trunks sometimes, and other oddities like having to reinvent routing (CUP supports static routes only)…

building my own R&S lab
I do all my practice with Dynamips on Linux plus 4 x 3550 plus one access server. 3550s are running at about 200-250USD on Ebay, a huge difference compared to 3560s. I may rent a rack with 3560 a month before the lab to practice specific 3560s features. I had full hardware lab but switched to Dynamips. I find it just better than real routers, for practice off course. I specifically like the possibility to save initial configs and work-in-progress so I can re-start any lab in seconds…
I am not sure I am getting your question about troubleshooting experience… do you mean real life experience compared to rack experience? Well, my humble personal estimate is that most ccie candidates do not have enough troubleshooting experience anyway unless you support many clients who call you only when something goes wrong. I suggest you practice with troubleshooting labs. Narbik has one free on his site and you can purchase more… I personally did not try it yet so cannot comment.

building my own R&S lab
Thanks to all,
Yes I have used Dynamip for most of my practice and Rented From IE Rack rentals and attempted last February unfortunately couldn’t pass because of Open Ended Questions and QoS , Multicast section. Now planing to start again the preparation again for Version4. i have decided to buy anyhow four 3560 Switches and thinking do i want to buy routers or can i manage again with dynampis for routing part ? Only my consideration is if i have the real lab only , can get enough troubleshooting experience to go through version 4.
Regards, Anbu
